🌸 Introduction: Seven Years Later, A Return to Wholeness

It’s been seven years since I first wrote this post back in 2018. At that time, I was just beginning my journey — discovering what wellness truly meant and learning through trial, error, and divine guidance.

Today, as I return to these words, I do so with deeper understanding and grace. Staying healthy all year long isn’t just about eating right or hitting the gym — it’s about living in harmony with yourself. It’s about aligning your mind, body, and spirit so that every part of you can thrive in balance.

True wellness is a rhythm — one that flows through every season of your life.

💧 1. Drink Water — The Source of Life

Water is your first medicine. It nourishes, detoxifies, and renews. Every cell in your body depends on it. Up to 60% of the human body is water — we are living rivers, carrying the flow of life through every heartbeat.

Drink natural spring or mineral-rich water whenever possible. Speak loving words over your water — yes, it listens. Water holds memory and responds to your intention. Let it carry your healing prayers through your body and spirit.

“If you want to flush it away, drink at least half your body weight in water daily.”
Ja’Kemia Price, The Queen of ODU

🥬 2. Eat from the Earth — S.O.U.L. Foods

S.O.U.L. = Seasonal, Organic, Unrefined/Unprocessed, and Local.

Eating this way reconnects you with nature’s wisdom. Fresh, whole foods carry the vibration of life — they remind your body of its original blueprint of balance.

Eating seasonally and locally means you’re consuming the same sunlight, air, and energy that your environment provides. It keeps your immune system strong and your digestion grounded.

Avoid highly processed foods and choose nourishment that feels alive. Every bite should speak life into your cells.

🌿 3. Become an Intuitive Eater

Intuitive eating means listening — not just to your hunger, but to your emotions.

Eat with intention. Silence the TV, put down the phone, and connect with your meal. Ask your body, “What do I truly need right now?”

When we slow down, we discover that food isn’t just physical nourishment — it’s emotional and spiritual communication. Eating with awareness allows your body to guide your healing naturally.

“When we listen to the body, we feed the soul.”

🧘🏾‍♀️ 4. Movement is Medicine

Movement keeps your life force flowing. Whether it’s walking, dancing, yoga, or stretching, your body needs movement to process emotions, regulate energy, and express freedom.

  • Take a mindful walk in nature.
  • Dance to your favorite song when you wake up.
  • Stretch before bed and give thanks to your body for carrying you through the day.

Movement is prayer in motion. It connects the physical with the spiritual — turning every step, stretch, and sway into ceremony.

“Your body is your first home. Keep it alive, flexible, and full of rhythm.”

🕯️ 5. Plan, Prep, and Protect Your Peace

Meal prepping isn’t just about saving time — it’s about intentional nourishment. Planning your meals helps you make conscious choices even on your busiest days.

If you cook for a family, make it fun and creative. Cook together. Try new herbs. Bless your food with love.

But also — protect your peace. Don’t let stress drive you to unhealthy habits. Having meals ready means your body never has to pay the price for your exhaustion.

And yes, life gets busy. Between work, school, and family, we all lose balance sometimes. That’s why routines matter. They anchor us when the world gets heavy.

🍵 6. Create Sacred Routines and Rituals

My favorite routine? Morning tea time.

Every sunrise, I sit quietly with a cup of herbal tea — no phone, no distractions, just me and my thoughts. I breathe deeply, meditate, and listen to what my spirit wants to say.

This ritual grounds me. It reminds me that peace is a choice — one I make every morning before the world begins to move.

Find your sacred moment:

  • Journaling
  • Stretching
  • Sitting in silence
  • Speaking affirmations

Whatever brings you back to your center, honor it daily. Small rituals become sacred lifelines in a busy world.

🧠 7. Mind Over Matter — Healing from Within

Everything begins in the mind. Your thoughts create ripples that flow through your body. If your inner world is chaotic, your outer world will mirror it. That’s why mental and spiritual healing are essential to physical wellness.

Meditation, prayer, journaling, and stillness help clear the clutter of overthinking. When your mind is still, your body relaxes, your energy opens, and your spirit feels safe to expand.

“Peace is not something we find — it’s something we return to.”

🌞 8. Reflect, Adjust, and Honor Your Growth

What worked seven years ago may not work today — and that’s okay. Wellness is not a fixed path; it evolves as we do.

Document your journey. Celebrate small victories. Release what no longer serves you. Every chapter of your healing has purpose. Let your growth be your teacher, your proof, and your prayer.

✨ Closing Message: Return to Your Divine Rhythm

Holistic living is not about restriction — it’s about restoration. When you drink living water, eat from the earth, move with joy, and honor your rituals, you align with the truth that healing is your birthright.

Stay healthy all year long by returning to your divine rhythm — the rhythm of nature, of balance, of peace.

HOW TO STAY HEALTHY ALL YEAR LONG

by Ja’Kemia Price, The Queen of ODU

With so many fad diets, new ideas, and different trends on the rise, the thought of getting and staying in shape can be overwhelming. As we ease into the New Year of 2018 and the world makes big changes, so should you.

Staying healthy all year long means finding healthier and more natural ways of living so you can become the best version of yourself. Here, I’ve shared proven ways to get in shape and stay in shape — the same practices that have worked for me and for many others I’ve served through my business. After all, I played a little “Russian roulette” with my body for two years to discover what really works.

#1 Drink Water

I can’t express enough how important water is for our bodies. Every part of us depends on it to function properly. Water renews cells, removes waste, delivers oxygen to the brain and body, helps manufacture neurotransmitters and hormones, and regulates temperature.

Up to 60% of the human body is water. According to H.H. Mitchell in the Journal of Biological Chemistry (Vol. 158), the brain and heart are composed of 73% water, the lungs about 83%, the skin 64%, muscles and kidneys 79%, and even the bones contain 31% water. These numbers don’t even include the cellular and genetic components that depend entirely on water for survival.

Water truly is the most essential element for life.

We should always drink natural spring water when possible, as it often has a higher pH balance and fewer harmful chemicals that strip the body of stored nutrients. Water holds memory — it responds to your words and energy. Just as it cleanses the earth, it will also cleanse and flush toxins from your body.

“If you want to flush it away, drink at least half your body weight in water a day.”
Ja’Kemia Price

#2 Eat Fresh, Natural, Organic, In-Season Foods

One of the best ways to maintain a healthy physique is to eat fresh. This simple shift changed my life forever.

Early in my nutrition education, I learned about S.O.U.L. foods — and no, not cornbread and collard greens (well, maybe the collards).
S.O.U.L. stands for Seasonal, Organic, Unrefined/Unprocessed, and Local foods.

When you remember this acronym, you automatically increase the quality of your life. Eating S.O.U.L. foods ensures that your body receives the best vitamins and minerals in their purest form. The closer your food is grown to home, the more compatible it is with your body. You also absorb some of the same energy and messages from the environment that the food gathered during its growth.

The shorter the travel distance, the less decay — and the better the taste. Simply switching to a S.O.U.L.-based diet instead of packaged or processed foods can lower the risk of cardiovascular and autoimmune diseases.

When you eat fresh, you can season your food naturally with herbs and spices instead of relying on processed ingredients loaded with sodium and preservatives — ingredients you often can’t even pronounce.

Really, what’s the point of adding yellow dye to canned corn when it’s already yellow? We don’t need another chemical or cancer-causing additive on top of the industrial materials used to seal the cans.

The advantage of eating fresh is knowing exactly what you’re putting into your body — and because the food is whole, you receive every essential nutrient it has to offer.

#3 Become an Intuitive Eater

Becoming an intuitive eater helps you become more aware of what you’re putting into your body. It’s one of the best ways to shed stubborn pounds and keep them off.

When we take time to eat without distractions (no TV, no phone), we practice mindfulness. When we slow down and truly savor our food, we eat intuitively.

Intuitive eating is about knowing when you’re hungry and recognizing when you’re eating out of emotion — boredom, stress, sadness, or habit.

When you take time to reflect on your feelings before eating, you can catch yourself when your body isn’t truly hungry and find a more meaningful way to respond. Intuitive eating allows you to enjoy food on a deeper level and appreciate how it supports your overall well-being.

One of the best resources I’ve found on this practice is Intuitive Eating: A Revolutionary Program That Works by Elyse Resch and Evelyn Tribole.

#4 Plan Your Meals with Meal Prepping

Meal planning can feel like a headache at first, but I promise it’s worth it.

The benefits of meal prepping are incredible. You know those lazy days when you don’t feel like cooking, so you grab fast food — the same food you swore you’d avoid at the start of the year? When you prep ahead, you already have healthy options waiting for you.

If you have a family, prep for them too. You don’t need fancy containers with fruit and veggies portioned out for the week — those are just for show. Instead, choose one or two days a week when you have time, plan your meals, shop for ingredients, and cook.

Be creative! You can reuse ingredients or leftovers to create new meals later in the week. Whether you’re single or feeding a family, meal prepping helps you make healthier choices and saves time and money. It can even help you lose weight.

Other Ways to Stay Healthy All Year Long

Start a Daily Routine or Ritual.
Routines help organize your life and create more time for what matters. For example, start your morning by drinking 32 ounces of water at least 30 minutes before breakfast. It helps your body wake up and begin flowing — congratulations, you’ve just broken your nightly fast!

Get Moving.
Set aside time each day to move your body. Even 15–30 minutes of cardio is enough. Not everyone can make it to the gym or yoga studio, but there are many ways to stay active — take the stairs, walk the long way, or download a quick 7-minute workout app. Any effort is better than none.

Document What’s Working.
Keep track of your habits and progress. If something’s working, stick with it. If you don’t notice a change after 6–8 weeks of consistent effort, try something new.

Get Your Mind Involved.
We’ve all heard the saying “Mind over matter” — and it’s true. The mind controls everything. Without mental balance, your physical and spiritual efforts won’t reach their full potential. Learn to manage your thoughts and emotions.

One of the best ways to stay healthy all year long is to start a meditation and/or yoga practice. Yoga strengthens the body, focuses the mind, and nurtures the soul — all at once.

Try these steps, and I’m confident you’ll notice a tremendous difference in your overall health and wellness.

Awaken Within: How Meditation Transforms the Mind, Body, and Soul

(Written by The Queen of ODU — Ja’Kemia Price)

🕊️ Author’s Note — From the Queen of ODU (2025 Reflection)

This post was originally written in 2018, during the early stages of my healing and spiritual awakening. Back then, I was learning to sit with my thoughts, breathe through my pain, and listen to my inner voice for the first time.

Today, years later, I’ve witnessed meditation transform not only my life but the lives of countless souls I’ve guided through my practice. What you’ll read below is where it all began — the roots of my SoulGround Wellness journey and my path as the Queen of ODU.

I’ve chosen to keep this message alive because its truth still stands: Meditation is the bridge between who we were and who we’re becoming.

Awaken Within: How Meditation Transforms the Mind, Body, and Soul

Meditation isn’t just sitting in silence — it’s a sacred return home. A journey back to your truest self, where peace, love, and divine alignment live.

When you decide to meditate, you’re choosing you — over distractions, stress, and the noise of the world. It’s an act of self-healing, self-love, and conscious transformation. Through stillness, we remember who we are: powerful beings with the ability to create our reality and attract what we truly desire.

As I sit in meditation, I’ve witnessed miracles unfold — not only within my life but in the lives of those I guide. The breath slows, the mind softens, and the spirit awakens. From that space of inner peace, everything begins to transform.

Here are some of the many ways meditation can change your life — from the inside out.

🌿 1. Cultivating Self-Respect, Compassion, and Kindness

Meditation teaches us how to be gentle with ourselves — and in turn, gentle with others.
When your thoughts soften, so does your energy. You begin to notice the way you speak to yourself, how you treat others, and how every word and action carries vibration.

Negative self-talk creates agitation, judgment, and separation. But when you meditate, you learn to replace those thoughts with compassion and truth. This awareness changes everything.

“When you respect yourself, you invite others to do the same. Meditation opens that sacred door.”

🌞 2. Awakening Awareness and Presence

Meditation heightens awareness — the key to real freedom.
When you begin to observe your thoughts instead of being controlled by them, you discover how powerful you truly are. You start to notice the quality of your inner dialogue, and slowly, you begin to reshape it.

Awareness is a mirror. It reflects where healing is needed and where love is growing. Through consistent meditation, you’ll see life clearer, act consciously, and stay rooted in the now — where peace lives.

Being aware helps you respond to life rather than react to it. That awareness becomes your superpower.

🔮 3. Dissolving the Negative Ego

Your ego loves to keep you busy — racing thoughts, worry, control, and comparison. But meditation silences that noise.

As you sit in stillness, the ego loses power because it cannot survive peace.
When you train the mind to be still, clarity replaces chaos. You begin to notice that there is enough time, enough space, enough of you.

This is where real freedom begins — when you are no longer trapped in negative thinking loops.
Through meditation, your ego transforms into an ally, no longer an enemy. You become guided by spirit, not fear.

💜 4. Centering in Self-Love and Patience

Centering yourself daily allows patience to bloom naturally. You start to trust the timing of your life and see beauty in your growth process.

Meditation strengthens your focus, builds emotional resilience, and teaches you to move with grace — not rush. You’ll find that you no longer chase love or validation because self-love becomes your foundation.

“The love you find within is the love that transforms everything outside of you.”

Through this practice, you begin to build a friendship with yourself — the most powerful relationship of all.

🌺 5. Discovering Gratitude and Abundance

Gratitude is a spiritual magnet.
When you meditate on what you’re thankful for, you expand your energy field and attract more of what you desire.

Each breath becomes a reminder that you are blessed — right here, right now.
Gratitude shifts your focus from lack to abundance. The more you honor what you already have, the more the Universe sends your way.

Try this simple practice:
Before each meditation, whisper three things you’re grateful for. Feel them deeply. Let that energy fill your heart.
Then, watch how life unfolds with more joy, grace, and synchronicity than you ever imagined.

🌼 A Final Reflection from the Queen of ODU

Meditation is more than a practice — it’s a lifestyle of awareness, healing, and creation. When you learn to quiet the noise and listen to your inner voice, your entire life shifts. You begin to live intentionally, love deeply, and walk in divine purpose.

Whether you’re just beginning or years into your journey, know that every breath you take in stillness brings you closer to your higher self — the one who has always known peace.

So close your eyes, breathe in gratitude, and return home.
Your transformation begins here. 🌿
